What does a Persian Cat cost ?

History of the Persian cat

Persian cats were shown as a recognized breed for first time at a cat show in London in 1871.

Even at this time they were very popular among members of the Royal family, especially Queen Victoria liked Persian cats very much.

Formally these longhaired cats came out of Asia and according to historical documents they were found in Italy in the year 1600.

In their over 400 year history, they led an aristocratic, pampered, protected life, and because of this reason they are very people oriented.

Over the long breeding timespan, not only the face noticably changed (see picture below), but also very positive qualities such as their absolute cleaneliness (housebroken) , they are very big smochers and they have a calm temper without any desire to break away into the wilderness. They are satisfied to appreciate a taste of  freedom in a safe outdoor pen .

Standard
Persian cats are very pleasant housemates that adapt perfectly to the habits of “their” humans. They are very playful and continue to be so into their later life, which can easily reach 20 years or more.

Character and Appearance

A Persian cat has a medium size body and is usually sturdily built. The body is short with a wide chest and short legs.

The head is round, wide and massiv with short wide nose and small ears. The eyes are copper colour, big and very expressive.

Generally spoken, a friendly face is the goal of the breeding techniques without any extreme features.

The long, voluminous fur and the short and bushy tail are typical for a gorgeous Persian cat.

There are over 80 different colours, but often only an expert can see the slight differences.

Our Breeding Goals

The primary goal for our cattery is to raise healthy, beautiful cats with a strong stable character with sweet, open expressions and loving temperaments, and of course complying with the highest breeding standards. It is very important for us to breed  a healthy, attractive Persian with a cute face and beautiful  fur which is easy to care for.

(a fur that does not get matted quickly and does not have to be bathed every 2 weeks in order to look clean and perfect.)

We have reached this goal successfully with most of our cats, thanks in part to our gorgeous male cat Trilby that transmitted this gene quality.

Grooming

Al Karia Eclair

We have to help our Darlings daily with grooming. That is the reason, why you should only adopt a Persian cat if you are able to spend this time with them and it is a pleasure for you.

The cat has to be combed daily in the direction that the hair grows out from the skin. And the eyes, which are very sensitive, have to be cleaned daily with a cotton pad (both wet and dry) to dissolve dirt and hair.

For this daily treatment you have to plan approximately 5-10 minutes daily.

Additionally, during the time when the coat changes, it is necessary (at least 2 times a week) to comb the fur coat inch by inch against the grow direction.

With a little bit of practice you can handle this in approximately 30 minutes.

The time you will invest in this work you will save in housecleaning, because the dead hair stays in your comb not on your carpet, couch or bed.

Pflege

All 6 -8 weeks you should bathe your cat. She has learned this already from the early days as a baby with the cat breeder, and with time shes gets used to this treatment and will allow you to do this without much of a struggle. The more infrequently you do this job, the more of a difficult time you will have!

A little bit of Baby powder or Dry Shampoo will beautify the fur, if something will hang in it and a bathing day is not possible at the moment.

Only a well groomed Persian cat is able to present all its natural beauty!

Health

Only Persian cats from an responsible cattery are sure to be healthy and practically guaranteed to have a long life filled with fun and enjoyment.

Usually one Inoculation a year is enough. At this doctors appointment the teeth should be checked and 1 week before a deworming should be done.

The Inoculations should include all the vacinations that your animal doctor suggests that are necessary depending if you have an indoor or outdoor cat. Some vaccinations are compulsory (such as rabies) and others are suggested. All of these should be noted in your cat´s vaccination certificates.

An important health factor is proper cat food. It is certainly worthwhile to do some research about the foods contents to make sure its top quality, instead of taking the best bargain product available on the supermarket shelf just because youre familiar with the product due to its TV or magazine marketing.Dry food should have 32-35% Protein and  wet food (those with sauces or canned food should have about 12% Protein. The reason for this is because cats are naturally meat and fish eaters and vegetables wander directly in the catbox having no nutritional benefit and can even cause diarrhoea.

What you save on the price of catfood you´ll end up spending on visits to the veterinarian and also on problems with their fur. The healthiest cats are those who receive a blanced diet of fresh meat (beef), poultry and also mutton complimented with calcium and vitamins.

What does a Persian Cat cost?

Cat breeding is a hobby, or at least it should be. There shouldn’t be any extras costs included in the purchase price of the kitten whos healthy parents have won many prizes in cat exhibitions, or because the race is from another part of the globe. The price is based on the determination of how close the kitten reflects the Persiancat Standard. The price is usually about 300-400 Euros for a pet (amateur Hobbists).

Upon delivery, usually when the kitten is at least 13 weeks old, the kitten is inocculated, dewormed, housebroken and usually well integrated with people and other cats. The kitten is delivered with a complete pedigree and sales contract. A resale or a resale to a massbreeder or a sale to a person planning to keep the cat caged is strictly prohibited.

Our cats are full family members and the new owner should be in a position to continue this kind of a relationship with the cat. In case of emergencies or if you have any questions, the owner can always contact us, and that goes for the life of your cat. Since we have a big house with lots of space, we offer to take care of your cat that you purchased from us while you are on vacation.

We hope that we could answer most of the commonly asked questions, and have aroused your interest in ownership of a Persian cat.

Thank you for your interest and we hope you will return and visit us again.
